Quote of the week - John Templeton

“It is impossible to produce superior performance unless you do something different from the majority.” - John Templeton
In investing, the most commonly followed strategies are the ones that yield the most average returns - returns that most people are making.
If you think about it, not everyone can make high returns - whatever return everyone is making is the average.
By that definition, only a few can make high returns.
And therefore, you cannot make higher returns using the same strategies as everyone else.
If you know what you’re doing, you can go against commonly agreed-upon rules and make good money.
But herein lies the fault.
It is very easy for investors to think they know what they’re doing while they actually have no clue.
Here is some famous book by John Templeton.
I am writing as a professional investor, one who has enjoyed a certain degree of success as an investment counselor over the past half-century and who wishes to share with others the lessons learned during this time.
Behind this book is the belief that the basic principles for leading a sublime life can be examined and tested just as science examines and tests the natural laws of the universe.
